The Christmas season may be behind us, but winter is not over yet! We use the cold time for delicious hot drinks that literally sweeten our day: sometimes the much-loved hot chocolate! But not from the bag, but with real grated chocolate. And that's very easy! Here you will find the basic recipe that makes children's eyes shine, can take a shot and is also very easy to make as vegan drinking chocolate....
Did you know that a hot cocoa and a hot chocolate are not the same? While real hot chocolate, also known as drinking chocolate, is made from melted chocolate chunks and is very thick, hot cocoa is made from sugar-free cocoa powder - of course both are delicious temptations.
Whether as a classic recipe without alcohol, with a shot or as a vegan and vegetarian variant, we are sure that your mouth will already be watering!
You need this accessory to prepare the super delicious hot chocolate
You need a pot, a whisk or wooden spoon, as well as a ceramic grater and of course your favorite mug.
The recipe: Hot chocolate with melted chocolate - the classic
Ingredients for a cup
250 ml whole milk
75- 85g Fairtrade chocolate, grated (at least 70% cocoa content)
¼ pinch sea salt
preparation
First process the chocolate on a grater.
Heat milk with salt in a saucepan - be careful, it should not boil!
Now melt the grated chocolate in the milk while stirring constantly. Increase the heat if necessary, but keep stirring and keep an eye on the bottom of the pot so nothing sticks.
Pour into a mug and enjoy!
Not sweet enough yet? Then try these delicious toppings:
whipped cream
Marshmallows
nuts
gingerbread pieces
Sugared almonds
coconut flakes
honey or caramel sauce
Feeling adventurous? Try these ingredients (per cup) in the hot chocolate as well
1 pinch of cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
1 pinch nutmeg, ground
½ tsp ground turmeric
¼ tsp vanilla extract (or from the pod)
1 small chilli (just cook it, but don't drink it!)
The recipe: hot chocolate with a shot
The preparation and ingredients are the same as for the classic drinking chocolate recipe.
Alcoholic beverages such as Baileys, orange liqueur, brown rum and cinnamon liqueur are fantastic for adding a little extra warmth to the hot chocolate. Finally, add 1 to 2 cl per cup of your desired spirit to the pot and enjoy!
The recipe: hot chocolate for vegans and vegetarians
For the equally delicious vegan or vegetarian version of the recipe, you can simply replace the cow's milk with plant-based milk such as oat, coconut, soy or almond milk. When buying chocolate, make sure that it is vegan and not made from animal milk.
